‎Manchester City set to sign Rosenborg star Sverre Nypan as record-breaking fifth summer transfer

‎Manchester City are on the brink of securing the signature of Norwegian wonderkid Sverre Nypan, marking their fifth signing of an ambitious summer transfer window under Pep Guardiola. The reigning English champions are reportedly finalizing a record-breaking transfer fee for a player from the Norwegian Eliteserien, as first revealed by The Athletic.

‎Nypan, an 18-year-old midfield sensation from Rosenborg, has been on the radar of top European clubs after a standout season in Norway. Arsenal, Aston Villa, and City-affiliated Girona were all in the hunt for the teenager, but Manchester City have now emerged as frontrunners to secure his services.
‎The deal—expected to be finalized in the coming days—represents the most City have ever paid for a Norwegian league player. Though the terms are still being ironed out, Nypan is expected to be loaned out immediately to continue his development, potentially in a top European league.
‎Nypan made headlines in May 2023, becoming the youngest-ever scorer for Rosenborg at just 16 years and 145 days. Known for his composure, passing vision, and versatility in midfield, the Norwegian international is considered one of Europe’s brightest young prospects.

‎His arrival follows the confirmed signings of Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Ait-Nouri, and Marcus Bettinelli, as Guardiola seeks to rejuvenate his squad after a trophyless 2024–25 season. Despite their domestic disappointment, City are gearing up for another shot at silverware, beginning with the Club World Cup on June 18. They face Wydad AFC in their opener, with Al Ain and Juventus rounding out Group G.
‎Though Nypan may not feature at the Etihad Stadium immediately, his signing is a clear indicator of Manchester City’s long-term investment in youth and global talent acquisition—hallmarks of their modern-era dominance under Guardiola.
‎As the summer window heats up, Manchester City’s proactive approach in the transfer market could prove crucial in reclaiming their competitive edge both domestically and on the world stage.
