Jadon Sancho confirms Chelsea exit after loan deal falls through

Jadon Sancho will depart Chelsea when his loan deal officially expires on June 30, after the club and player failed to reach an agreement on personal terms that would have made his move from Manchester United permanent.

‎Sancho, 25, joined Chelsea last summer in a temporary transfer from Manchester United that included an obligation to buy clause worth up to £25 million ($33.7 million). However, the clause was contingent on personal terms being agreed between Chelsea and the player — an agreement that has now collapsed, paving the way for his exit.
‎Chelsea will incur a £5 million ($6.75 million) penalty fee for opting out of the purchase, as stipulated in the original loan arrangement with United. Despite the financial setback, the west London club ultimately chose not to pursue the winger permanently.
‎Sancho, who has attracted interest from clubs across the Premier League and Europe, is now expected to evaluate his options over the summer before making a decision on his next move. He leaves Stamford Bridge having made a measurable impact in his one-season stint — contributing five goals and ten assists in 42 appearances.
‎Crucially, Sancho played a key role in helping Chelsea finish fourth in the Premier League, securing Champions League qualification. He also capped off his campaign with a vital goal in the UEFA Conference League final, sealing a 2-0 victory over Real Betis in Wroclaw.
‎Head coach Enzo Maresca praised the winger’s influence during Chelsea’s post-match celebrations:
‎"Jadon Sancho — if we finished fourth, it’s because of Jadon. If we won tonight, it’s because of Jadon."
‎Sancho confirmed his departure via social media, writing: “Grateful for the experience. Big love to everyone at Chelsea who made me feel at home — teammates, staff and the fans. Wishing the club all the best moving forward. Truly grateful. Thank you, Blues.”
‎Sancho arrived at Manchester United in 2021 in a high-profile £85 million move from Borussia Dortmund but struggled to consistently deliver at Old Trafford. His stint at Chelsea, though not without its inconsistencies, has helped rehabilitate his profile.
‎His brief time in west London was bookended by pivotal moments — an assist on debut against Bournemouth and a Conference League final goal — showcasing flashes of the talent that once made him one of Europe’s most coveted prospects.
‎As Sancho now weighs his next chapter, he departs Chelsea on respectful terms, having contributed to a successful season — and with silverware to show for it.
